The Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory has produced its 5 millionth battery pack.

According to Tesla's official announcement on December 12th, the 5 millionth battery pack manufactured at Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory was successfully produced on that day. As Tesla's first overseas vehicle production facility, the Shanghai Gigafactory holds a strategically significant position within Tesla's global manufacturing network.

Serving as a critical component of electric vehicles, the battery packs manufactured at this facility have been extensively implemented across Tesla's primary vehicle models, including the Model 3 and Model Y.

As reported by Tesla, the company's electric vehicle battery systems comprise individual cells and auxiliary components. The proprietary cell chemistry formulations and battery architecture are independently developed by Tesla's engineering team, demonstrating superior performance characteristics, exceptional energy density, and outstanding cold-weather resilience. The battery system design is engineered to maintain operational capacity throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle.

From battery production to drive system manufacturing, from complete vehicle assembly to international exports, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory continues to achieve remarkable production milestones. The facility has consistently elevated production output across all product lines to fulfill Tesla's substantial global delivery requirements.

In the domain of core components, the Shanghai Gigafactory reached a significant milestone in August 2024 with the production of Tesla's 10 millionth drive system unit. During the fiscal year 2024, the factory achieved annual production exceeding 3 million vehicles, including 1 million units destined for international markets, with annual deliveries surpassing 916,000. In the first quarter of 2025, the facility completed its production line transition in record time - within six weeks - enabling the Tesla Model Y Juniper, which set new daily order records in the Asia-Pacific market, to become Tesla's fastest ramping production model.

With production capacity continuing to expand, Tesla is strengthening its leadership position in the new energy vehicle industry through continuous technological innovation and operational scale efficiencies. The high-performance battery systems and drive units manufactured at Tesla's Shanghai facility not only satisfy domestic market demand in China but have also earned widespread recognition from international consumers, providing substantial support for Tesla's global business expansion strategy.
